Hungary vs. Indiana

vs.

When my boss told me that he had an opportunity for me in Budapest, I’ll have to admit that I had to look it up on a map. I was not sure where Hungary was even located. I knew it was in Europe, but I’ll admit that I am not so savvy on the European geography. I up looked Hungary on the CIA World Fact Book website and knew I was supposed to come here when the site described the size of Hungary as “a little smaller than Indiana”. I thought, heck! It was meant to be!!

Something that I’ve been thinking a lot about lately is that here I am in Hungary, a country just a little smaller than Indiana and they have their own entire language and their very own unique culture. It’s amazing really, isn’t it? I mean, that would be like Hoosier’s having an entirely different language than folks from Ohio. It’s just strange to get your mind around really. And this Hungarian language is nothing like Romanian or…. well… whatever it is they speak in Slovakia or Croatia. Somehow, over thousands and thousands and thousands of years they have managed to maintain their own language and cultures. Amazing!
