Culture Shock… what is it really?

So I’m back in the ‘ol IN and man is it good to be home. I’ve been home for a week now and I’m not sure sure that I’ve experienced culture shock per-se yet. I don’t know if you would qualify just standing around in shopping malls and staring at all the glorious, wonderful ‘crap’… listening to the beautiful, marvelous English speakers and smelling the delicious, yummy, overbearing smells as culture shock, but… well… I think that’s just what I am experiencing. The biggest difference that I am seeing between Budapest and America is the consumerism we’ve got here. The colors, lights, smells and sales… it’s all about buying, buying, buying and man this time of year is sure full of it!! It’s not a bad thing… it’s just the way it is here. It’s how we are raised and how we are influenced. I have really been enjoying just taking it all in. I’ve always enjoyed the ‘mall watching’… but this year I’m really truly appreciating it.

So far I’ve been to Logansport, Delphi, Greenfield, Westfield (Clay Terrace Area), Noblesville, Indianapolis (from Broadripple to Castleton to Keystone), and Lafayette. Off to Kokomo and Indy again tomorrow then up to Amboy. One more week here and so much more to do yet!! People to see all over this great state!! :) I am realizing that I really do have the coolest, neatest family and friends ever. Really!! It’s good to be home!! I’ll be posting pictures as soon as I get around some high speed connection… dial up will take way too much time though. Stay posted!!

… and if I don’t get back here before- M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S !!!!!

Funniest Tatoo Ever!

I don’t do forwards. I barely read them, I certainly do not forward them. None. That doesn’t mean that there are not good ones out there, I just don’t like the thought of seeing my name and then a big ‘FWD:’ next to it. I think it brings bad feelings that I would just prefer not be associated with my name.

However, I do have this as an outlet to share stuff I do see and think is share worthy. So here’s one… seriously, this guy has a REAL good sense of humor about this. Good stuff!

When in Rome

Sasha and I found that 4 days is far to short to see all there is to see there. Wow - what a place. Rome is a totally huge city which lies on top of some of the coolest, oldest, most historical places ever. Just amazing to think about some of the people who have walked there where we were walking. The first day we went over to the Colleseum and the ancient ruins. We spent practically the whole day there.

The Colleseum:

Ta-da! The Colleseum

The Colleseum

This picture sort of sums up Rome… there we are… being goofy… or normal, if you will…. and there in the background is a structure just behind the colleseum… probably been there for only a few hundred years!! Wow!!

Goofs

The ruins were incredible… almost an entire city itself… so so so old!

Start of the ruins

Inside the ruins

The other side of the ruins...

Tail end of the ruins

Amazing picture

One thing was for sure that we got a lot of great tourist shots!!

Sasha and the ruins

Only the front pillars are left

More ruins

One cool thing was that we got to see the prision where Peter, and possiblly Paul were in at one time. In this picture the prision is the building on the very far right side.

First gliimpse at Paul's prision

Here it is up closer….

The front on the prision…

Peter was lowered through this manhole down into the cell.

Manhold which Peter was lowered through

And here it is…. unclothed, this is where Peter was inprisioned. Wow… can you even imagine. It was a very solom place as you can imagine….

I’ve been told that I make these too long and there really is SO MUCH to share here so I’ll end this for now.

Stay tuned!!
