Congrats to Sasha & Kevin!!

Man, I cannot believe that I have not blogged about this yet!! My dear, dear sweet friend, Sasha, recently got engaged!!! Her and her sweetie, Kevin, have been dating for almost 2.5 years and have decided that they are going to take the plunge into the couples world! I am soooo happy for them. They are a really great pair. So guess what that means for me… ? ANOTHER trip to the US – THIS YEAR! Yeah, they aren’t wasting any time, the date is…. well… maybe I shouldn’t say yet ‘cause I’m not 100% sure it’s set in stone but looks like late October.

While I was home, I got the chance to celebrate with Kevin and Sasha and a few of our friends. Here is the lovely couple:

(Check out the SWEET ring on her finger!! Heehee)
What a good photographer I am... got the ring and everything!

Kevin asked Don to be his best man that night… was reallly endearing!!

Two cuties!!

A Little Piece of Life in Eastern Europe

Living in Eastern Europe is NOTHING like living in Africa, the Phillipenes or some 3rd world country. Far from it. It is funny when I get questions from friends like, “is the water clean there?” or “you do have internet at home??” :) Well, it is certainly civilized here but there are a few bumps and quirks along the way that do make life a bit challenging. For instance: a friend of mine who lives just down the street, another expat in Budapest sent me this e-mail today…

So, I get a note in Hungarian the other day saying the gas will be turned off in the building for repairs. I assume it will be only a couple of days, so I wash my hair in the sink for 2 days. The third day, still no gas, so I use the electric water heater in the kitchen sink (the only electric one in the house) to fill up a big pot with hot water. I then go to the bathroom and take a sponge bath

sponge bath

(sorry, not trying to give you any mental images ). The next day, still no hot water so another sponge bath. I’m now proud of my pluck and ingenuity for figuring out how to maintain hygiene in these difficult times, resolute that my hot water will soon return. Call the property manager today and find out that my gas will be out for TWO WEEKS! He says that he will have a handy man bring an electric cooker to cook with and some sort of electric water heater for the shower. This will probably happen on Monday. What a crazy world.
What time do you want to get together tonight? Oh, and can I take a shower at your place sometime tomorrow?
Cheers,
Bill

I had to laugh out loud when I got that one. Funny… but also reality!! Just so you know we will be letting Bill shower at our place tomorrow. Phew!!! haha

… ahhh… Life in Eastern Europe!!
